Hey Ladies! It’s A Leap Year!
So, it’s 2016 and it’s a Leap Year so ladies, according to tradition, this is your moment to propose. Yes, if you’ve been dreaming of popping the question then mark 29th February in your diary and start planning your proposal. But, before we get to the moment of the big question, let’s just take indulge with a quick history lesson. The Leap Year proposal began in Ireland when, at that time 29th February wasn’t seen as a ‘proper’ date so women could take the chance to do the things that they couldn’t or wouldn’t do on the real days of the year. Apparently, if chap in question said no, he had to present his lady with twelve rings so women had nothing to lose.
Of course, smart 21st Century women know that’s not the case and an ill-timed proposal can scupper a promising relationship so girls, if you’re keen to go down on one knee on 29th February, do make sure that you’re on safe ground in a happy relationship before you start your romantic planning.
Now, whether you’re looking to set the right atmosphere for a proposal or if you just fancy organising a special little treat or gift for your beloved then read on because at Coco & Kate, we’re all about the loved this Leap Year…
As the saying goes, music is indeed the food of love so how about a delicious picnic for two or luxurious breakfast in bed? You might prefer to propose in private or you might just welcome a little bit of time together, either way this is a great option. Prepare a basket full of delicious treats, choose your location and then enjoy…
If you’ve got the budget or the inclination for something slightly more glam, then you can’t beat escaping from the everyday on a little holiday. Taking some time out and living a different kind of life for a few days without the drudge of work really gives you the opportunity to just be a couple and frankly, create a perfect proposal moment!
But let’s not ignore the little things because they’re rather lovely. How about a proposal jigsaw, a ‘marry me’ mug or a book full of all the reasons why you want to marry your lover? I must admit that sometimes, it’s the small gifts that mean the most so if you’re looking to propose, you don’t have to spend a fortune to create a memorable moment.
In some ways, it does seem rather odd that in this era of ‘he for she’ equality, we’re still so traditional about proposals. But then, perhaps, when the whole story of your life is written, the little line explaining who proposed to who really just starts a new chapter rather than being the entire tale.
So, might you propose this Leap Year?!
Love,
Sophie x
